- Without a Green Card or border OC you may not drive in Poland — you risk a fine and liability for damage.
- The Green Card is issued by an insurer in the country of registration (e.g. Ukraine) — order it before leaving, it usually takes 2–3 weeks.
- Border OC is bought at the border, online or by phone — minimum 30 days, usually about 100–200 zł (according to mubi.pl).
- Staying longer? Switch to annual OC — after registering in Poland or under the current rules for non-EU cars.
Green Card or border OC
- Green Card: issued by an insurer in a Green Card system country (incl. Ukraine); valid in Poland for the policy term.
- Border OC: bought in Poland if you have no Green Card; minimum 30 days, it does not renew automatically.
- If you drive a Polish-registered car outside the EU (e.g. to Ukraine), your Polish OC insurer issues the Green Card.
What next if you stay in Poland
Border OC is a short-term solution. If you live in Poland, plan annual OC: when registering the car in Poland or — for non-EU plates — under the current rules (as of October 2026 the UC95 draft is under discussion). We'll compare offers and count your history from abroad.
Documents
- Passport or residence card.
- Foreign registration certificate.
- Car details (VIN, make, model).
- For annual OC — insurance history certificate from your home country.
