- From 1 January 2027 fines go up (minimum wage 4,950 zł): passenger car 1,980 / 4,950 / 9,900 zł.
- The fine depends on vehicle type and gap length, and is tied to the minimum wage (4,806 zł in 2026).
- Passenger car: 1,920 zł (1–3 days), 4,810 zł (4–14 days), 9,610 zł (over 14 days).
- Trucks and buses: up to 14,420 zł; motorcycles and trailers: up to 1,600 zł.
- If you cause an accident without OC, UFG pays the victims and claims it back from you — sometimes hundreds of thousands of złoty.
When UFG imposes a fine
For any day the vehicle is registered in Poland without OC. Gaps usually arise after buying a car (seller's policy cancelled), cancelling OC without buying a new one, or an unpaid instalment.
What to do if UFG sends a demand
- Check whether there really was a gap — you may have a policy UFG can't see.
- If so, send the policy and proof of payment.
- If there was a gap, in special circumstances you can apply for cancellation or instalments.
- Buy OC immediately so the fine doesn't grow.
Deregistered or sold car
The fine doesn't apply to a deregistered vehicle. After selling, report the sale to the registration office and the insurer.
